20 miles: Team in Training

Submitted by on January 4, 2010 – 1:00 pmNo Comment

20 miles was tough on Saturday. I don’t know, I think it was the heat. We started pretty close to 7am I think. I didn’t know exactly what time it was. I was surprised to see so little people on this run. It was our last long run of the year. We started in Encinitas at a familiar place. It was a spot that we had a aid station at the train run.

The beginning was a hill that we walked and then continued on for a flat run. Then another hill. I decided to run slow this morning and take my time. I have been having issues with my feet and I didn’t have the great motivation to push it this morning. So I decided to run with a couple of guys on the B team. We were keeping a pace of about less than 10 min/mile. I liked it and I enjoyed it more. I also decided to run with a fuel belt with the drink holders on them. I think it helped tremendously. I was able to get a drink at any time to help with my hydration. I don’t know if I jinxed myself because I had to go to the bathroom twice during the run. It got hot during the end though as it got warmer and it affected my speed.

I hated myself for not charging my garmin. I feel like I always tend to look at it though. I’m kinda glad that I did and didn’t. I wanted to know how fast I was going but didn’t want to feel pressured about how slow I was going. I ran with another team mate Rick during most of my run. He is a slower runner but proved to me to be beneficial because he helped me to slow down and not have any issues after the run. It may been the socks or my training and even stretching that I did before hand. Who knows what helped my that day. I was able to get in about an hour of my training. From the 10 mile mark and back to the finish is what I had for my garmin. It stopped around mile 6 and some with about an hour of data. I knew I felt sore too towards the end of the run. I was running slowly and had to stop but Rick helped me stay on point and finish strong. Thanks Rick.
