December 10, 2009: Training run 5 miles

Submitted by on December 11, 2009 – 12:46 pm2 Comments

I decided to go for my first run in my new neighborhood. It was around 7pm, I decided to go earlier instead of later because I didn’t want to wait and it would only get colder. I didn’t want to drive all the way to the gym because it was a 7 mile round trip drive. I decided to wear warm up and a long sleeve. I hate feeling cold. As I started to run I was cold up until I got to around .75 – 1 mile mark. I was getting warm from the run. I did sweat a good amount. I kept thinking that I would get hit by a car or some animal would come out and chase me but none of that happened.

My Garmin 310xt didn’t find the satellites very quickly as I went outside. It took about .25 of a mile to find it. It was alright though. I did do ok for my run. The first 2.5 miles were somewhat downhill. I did like that, but as I made my return I soon noticed that it was a slow incline. I had to reduce my speed. I felt hot a little bit and my shirt was full of sweat. I had to keep pushing. I think overall I kept a little bit over a 9 min/mile pace. I was ok with that. I wanted more. I have to do a long run this weekend with Team In Training. I finally got back home and it wasn’t too tired. I got my recovery drink and some protein to finish off the night.

I think my motivation could have kept me there for a bit. It seems like winter seems to keep my motivation down. All the holiday spirit and the cold weather is tough to workout to. Maybe I should just stick to P90X and Insanity during this time because I will be indoors instead of out.
