December 8, 2009: Training run 5 miles

Submitted by on December 9, 2009 – 12:03 pmNo Comment

I decided to run at the gym today. I seem to hate going to the gym lately but it never fails that once I get there its fine. I guess the ritual of getting dressed and driving is always my issue. Once I finally left and got to 24 hour fitness, it was ok. I actually had to check in with the front desk. They have changed the finger print thing to get in. They use the card again. I just have to go back in to the gym before 9pm to get a new card.

I decided to go for a 5 mile run. I always seem to do a different routine that I would normally do compared to when I run outside. I tend to warm up more on a treadmill. I started off slowly with a 10 min/mile pace and then sped up every 1/10 of a mile. It was a good warm up. I didn’t do any stretching before hand which is a ritual of mine. I seem to get through it ok and I do some stretching afterwards. After the 1st mile, I stopped to walk and get a drink from my bottle for .05 of a mile. Then I started to run again but faster. I don’t know if its something in my head that tells me that I need to get this over with so I set the treadmill to a 9:30 min/mile. I repeated at the end of the 2nd mile and walked and replenished my fluids. At mile 3 I went for a faster pace of 9:00 min/mile and then repeated. At mile 4 I ran a 8:30 min/mile pace and at mile 5 I ran a sub 8 min/mile pace to get it over with. The last 1/10 of a mile I walked and caught my breath. I then stretched after and went home.

I thought that this workout was a good one for me. I felt accomplished and I sweated a ton. My whole front of my shirt was wet and it was great. I think I sweat so much more indoors because I didn’t have the cool weather outside to help dry it off.
